Cy pres is a doctrine that permits a court to award any unallocated, unclaimed, or undeliverable funds from a settlement or judgment to a non-profit organization. As a national non-profit law and policy organization, the Legal Action Center is eligible to receive nominations and awards for cy pres funding.

THE LEGAL ACTION CENTER IS AN IDEAL CHOICE FOR A CY PRES AWARD

PROVIDING ACCESS TO JUSTICE & HELPING PEOPLE REBUILD THEIR LIVES WITH DIGNITY
Cy pres awards directly support the Legal Action Center’s work providing access to justice.  LAC’s legal services project helps individuals obtain health care, employment, housing, and other necessities of life, while also rebuilding their lives with dignity.  LAC’s multi-faceted approach combines legal services, litigation, education, and policy advocacy to break down barriers and enable and empower some of the most underserved populations to lead productive, healthy lives.

CONNECTION TO MANY CLASSES
Because the Legal Action Center
works to increase access to justice in many substantive areas (e.g., employment, housing, consumer protection, healthcare, education, etc.) we have a nexus to most types of class action cases. Our work is conducted nationally, so we are eligible to be nominated in federal courts as well as state courts throughout the country.

To help support our mission through cy pres, please add the Legal Action Center to your firm’s list of eligible cy pres recipients. Please contact Sally Friedman, Legal Director, if you have any questions about the Legal Action Center’s work or the cy pres process.
