About This Training:

Accessing Insurance Coverage for Substance Use & Mental Health Treatment: The Federal Parity Law [Slides/Video] provides an overview of the federal parity law and tells individuals and providers how they can take advantage of their rights under the law. The federal parity law, officially called the Paul Wellstone & Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act of 2008, requires most health insurers that offer insurance coverage for substance use disorder and mental health services to offer it equally with coverage for other medical and surgical benefits. This training focuses on federal law and touches on New York law.

This Training Is For:

  • Service providers and advocates working with people who have substance use disorders;
  • People with substance use disorders, and their families and allies; and
  • Anyone else interested in the topic.
