Center for Disease Control- This website offers a wide range of information ranging from Data & Statistics, Diseases & Conditions, Workplace Safety & Health and much more.

 

Center for Health Care Strategies, Inc. (CHCS)- The Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) is a nonprofit health policy resource center dedicated to improving the quality and cost effectiveness of health care services for low-income populations and people with chronic illnesses and disabilities.

 

Citizen Action of New York- Citizen Action of New York is a statewide membership organization that fights for quality affordable health care for all, jobs that pay living wages with decent benefits, expanded Medicare coverage for seniors that includes prescription drugs, strong investment in public education and after-school programs, campaign finance reform, an end to corporate tax loopholes and tax breaks for the wealthy, and consumer protections.

 

Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS)- HANYS is the only association that represents and advocates on behalf of all New York’s hospitals and health systems at all levels of the federal and state government. HANYS has access to policy leaders, regardless of their political affiliation, and is an integral player in health policy discussions. HANYS also communicates the members’ concerns and positions to New York and national media in support of the Association’s legislative and regulatory initiatives.

 

Healthfinder.gov- This site hosted by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services offers and encyclopedia of over 1,600 health topics from the most trusted sources.

 

Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY)- The Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) is an organization of approximately 30,000 licensed physicians, medical residents, and medical students in New York State. Members participate in both the state society and in their local county medical societies. They represents the interests of patients and physicians in an ongoing effort to assure quality health care services for all New Yorkers.

 

National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP)- NASHP is an independent academy of state health policymakers working together to identify emerging issues, develop policy solutions, and improve state health policy and practice. NASHP provides a forum for constructive, nonpartisan work across branches and agencies of state government on critical health issues facing states.

 

National Cancer Institute- On this website you will find valuable cancer-related information of all kinds. For the general public, patients, and health professionals, they offer consumer-oriented information on a wide range of topics as well as comprehensive descriptions of our research programs and clinical trials.

 

United Hospital Fund (UHF)-The United Hospital Fund’s mission is to shape positive change in health care for the people of New York. We advance policies and support programs that promote high quality, patient-centered health care services that are accessible to all.

 

 

HIV/AIDS

 

AIDS Action- AIDS Action’s Communications is dedicated to providing the most accurate and up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS and other related topics. Their goal is to highlight the mission and accomplishments of AIDS Action and keep readers abreast of activities on Capitol Hill that affect the HIV community.

 

AIDS/HIV in New York State- This site hosted by the New York State Department of Health provides the New York State HIV/AIDS Surveillance Semiannual Report, AIDS Surveillance Quarterly Updates, AIDS in New York State Reports and AIDS/HIV Counseling and Testing.

 

CDC HIV/AIDS Surveillance Reports- The HIV/AIDS Surveillance Reports contains tabular and graphic information about U.S. AIDS and HIV case reports, including data by state, metropolitan statistical area, mode of exposure to HIV, sex, race/ethnicity, age group, vital status, and case definition category.

 

Face of AIDS Global AIDS Film Archive- The Face of AIDS vision is to develop and complementing its existing film archive into a world leading searchable and edited digital web-based education, research and information tool on the development and global response to HIV/AIDS.

 

Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC)- Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) is a not-for-profit, volunteer-supported and community-based organization committed to national leadership in the fight against AIDS.

HIV Center for Clinical and Behavioral Studies- The HIV Center serves as a national and international hub for a network of research activities and community outreach. We work with a broad range of HIV-infected and -affected populations and are committed to responding to the needs of underserved populations.

 

HIV-AIDS Treatment Information Service (ATIS)- This site offers information on HIV/AIDS treatment, prevention, and research.  You will find information on available drugs, clinical trials, vaccines, health topics and more.

 

HIVandHepatitis.com- Our common objective is to create a quality online publication that provides accurate, timely and cutting-edge information about treatment for HIV/AIDS, chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C, and co-infection with HIV/HCV and HIV/HBV.

 

National AIDS Treatment Advocacy Project (NATAP)- NATAP mission is to educate individuals about HIV and Hepatitis treatments and to advocate on the behalf of all people living with HIV/AIDS and HCV.  Their efforts in these areas are conducted on local, national, and international levels.

 

National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention(NCHHSTP) - The National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) is responsible for public health surveillance, prevention research, and programs to prevent and control human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), viral hepatitis, and tuberculosis (TB).

 

National Development and Research Institutes (NDRI)- NDRI is a non-profit research and educational organization dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in the areas of drug and alcohol abuse, treatment and recovery; HIV, AIDS and HCV; therapeutic communities; youth at risk; and related areas of public health, mental health, criminal justice, urban problems, prevention and epidemiology.

 

National HIV and STD Testing Resources- This website helps you locate testing centers near you and provides comprehensive information on HIV testing, including procedures and who should consider being tested.

 

New York State Department of Health- This website offers a wide range of information on current issues such as Salmonella Infection, Influenza (flu), Medicaid, Nursing/Hospital/Doctor Profiles, and HIV/AIDS. They also provide information on Birth/Death/Marriage/Divorce Records, Permits, Licenses & Certifications, as well as Healthy Lifestyles.

 

The Body- The Body is the complete HIV/AIDS resource with over 550 topic issues.  These areas include: Ask the Experts, Just Diagnosed, Treatment, Prevention, AIDS Policy & Activism, Living with HIV, Connecting with others and more. 

 

TruthAIDS- TruthAIDS is a physician-inspired organization that is forming a network of cross-sector partnerships with scholars from all disciplines, professionals, community-based groups, schools, theater groups and media companies to create a new community of stakeholders committed to stopping HIV and advancing preventative health.

 

Government

 

New York City Council- The New York City Council is the law-making body of the City of New York. It is comprised of 51 members from 51 different Council Districts throughout the five boroughs. The Council monitors the operation and performance of city agencies, makes land use decisions and has sole responsibility for approving the city’s budget. It also legislates on a wide range of other subjects. The Council is an equal partner with the Mayor in the governing of New York City.

 

New York City Government (NYC.gov) - NYC.gov provides access to hundreds of City services, forms, jobs, and resources.

 

New York State Senate- This website provides you with the latest information on NYS Senators, Bills & Laws, Press Releases, Senate Reports and more.

 

New York State Assembly- On this site you will find the most up to date information on NYS Assembly Members and Bill Search & Legislative Information.  You will also find the Legislative Public Hearing Calendar and much more.

 

New York State Division of Budget- The Division of the Budget (DOB) is charged with the responsibility of advising the Governor in matters that affect the financial health of the state. Their office assists in formulating the Governor’s budget proposal to the Legislature, offers policy recommendations on fiscal issues, and oversees the implementation of the final Enacted Budget.

 

New York State Government- On this site you can find information pertaining to Business, Education, Housing, Transportation, Tax Information and Open Meeting Webcasts.  The site also provides links to the home pages of the New York State Governor, Attorney General and State Comptroller as well as the home pages for the New York State Senate, Assembly and Congressional Delegation.

 

U.S. Congress (Congress.org)- Congress.org allows users to identify and contact elected leaders in Congress, the White House, and state legislatures.  Users can also post letters online in Letters to Leaders and read what other Americans are saying to elected officials.

 

Legal

 

LawHelp.org-  LawHelp helps low and moderate income people find free legal aid programs in their communities, and answers to questions about their legal rights.  You can find information to help with problems related to housing, work, family, bankruptcy, disability, immigration and other topics.

 

Lawyers Alliance for New York- specializes in business and transactional legal services for nonprofits, Lawyers Alliance directly impacts the nonprofit sector and New York City communities. Their services greatly enhance their clients’ performance, which translates into expanded and improved programs for the families, children and adults who need them most.

 

Legal Aid Society- The Legal Aid Society provides a full range of civil legal services as well as criminal defense work, and juvenile rights representation in Family Court. Their core service is to provide free legal assistance to New Yorkers who live at or below the poverty level and cannot afford to hire a lawyer when confronted with a legal problem.

 

MYF Legal Services- MFY works in concert with community organizations to provide free civil legal assistance to those in greatest need.

 

Neighborhood Legal Services- NLS is a not-for-profit agency located in Buffalo, New York. NLS provides free legal services to persons with low-income and persons with disabilities.

 

New York City Bar Association Legal Referral Line-  The New York City Bar Association provides referrals to experienced lawyers. You’re assured of a referral to an insured, interested attorney, pre-screened for suitability and experience - for your specific legal matter.

 

Sex Education

 

Advocates for Youth- Advocates for Youth is dedicated to creating programs and advocating for policies that help young people make informed and responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health. Advocates provide information, training, and strategic assistance to youth-serving organizations, policy makers, youth activists, and the media in the United States and the developing world.

 

Get the Facts NY- Get the Facts NY supports the right of every young person to access the information and develop the skills necessary to make safe and responsible choices about his or her sexual health. Get the Facts NY advocates for medically accurate, age-appropriate sex education for youth in New York State.

 

MySistahs- MySistahs is a Web site created by and for young women of color to provide information and offer support on sexual and reproductive health issues through education and advocacy. Through monthly features, message boards, and online peer education young women receive information on activism, culture, sexual health, and other issues that are important to them.

 

Planned Parenthood Federation of America- Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is many things to many people. They are a trusted health care provider, an informed educator, a passionate advocate, and a global partner helping similar organizations around the world.  Planned Parenthood delivers vital health care services, sex education, and sexual health information to millions of women, men, and young people.

 

Sex, Etc.- Sex, Etc. is an award-winning national magazine and Web site on sexual health that is written by teens, for teens. It is part of the Teen-to-Teen Sexuality Education Project developed by Answer (formerly the Network for Family Life Education), a leading national organization dedicated to providing and promoting comprehensive sexuality education. Answer is part of the Center for Applied Psychology at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

 

Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS) - SIECUS provides countless resources to help educators, advocates, and parents secure supportive public policies, provide high quality education, and help our youth become sexually healthy.

Organizers Collaborative (OC)- OC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that identifies and develops low-cost, replicable technology, software, and trainings that meets the organizing, outreach, and fundraising needs of small nonprofits.
