The Issue

Many people with HIV and Hepatitis C also confront other challenges. They may face barriers to health care, housing, and employment. Some also have histories of addiction or criminal justice involvement. Providing support services to address these challenges can help people become stable and stay engaged in health care.

Current Initiatives

  • Supporting the recommendations of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Ending the Epidemic Taskforce
  • Promoting employment and removing impediments to work for people with HIV/AIDS in New York

Policy Recommendations

  • Support the whole person: Governments and service providers should support people with HIV and Hepatitis C to access health care and find suitable housing and employment.
  • Address criminal record barriers: Governments should provide specialized support services that address the overlapping needs and challenges of justice-involved people with HIV and Hepatitis C.
