A newly updated and abridged version of Legal Action Center’s book, Confidentiality & Communication, covers all the essentials for understanding confidentiality
The Legal Action Center (LAC) is currently offering recordings of two webinars explaining the federal health privacy laws protecting the confidentiality of substance use disorder patient information, 42 CFR Part 2 and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Introduction to Confidentiality: 42 CFR Part 2 & HIPAA is a three-hour overview of two federal health privacy laws, presented in two separate segments and featuring a number of real-life examples and case studies to illustrate concepts like: Who must comply with 42 CFR Part 2?; How does 42 CFR Part 2 differ from HIPAA?; How to share records with patient consent?; and When can you share Part 2-protected records without patient consent?
42 CFR Part 2 & What Has Changed in the Recent Amendments is a two-hour course designed for people who are already familiar with the federal substance use disorder privacy protections, but need information about the 2017 and 2018 amendments to the regulations, including changes to: written consent requirements; the definition of a Qualified Service Organization; the provisions regarding audits, evaluations, research, and more.
