Donor Privacy Policy

The Legal Action Center is the only non-profit law and policy organization in the United States whose sole mission is to fight discrimination against people with histories of addiction, HIV/AIDS, or criminal records, and to advocate for sound public policies in these areas. The Legal Action Center is committed to respecting the privacy of our donors. This Donor Privacy Policy reflects our commitment to ensure that donor information will not be utilized inappropriately or shared with any third party.

The Legal Action Center collects and maintains a database of donor contact information such as names, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail addresses. We also collect giving information, as well as related information such as events attended, requests for program information, and data provided by the donor in the form of comments, suggestions, or questions. We retain this information in a password-protected secure database in order to provide gift receipts for tax purposes and to tailor subsequent communications to the donor.

Additionally, to help further the success of the Legal Action Center, this information may be utilized when necessary for analysis and strategic planning purposes. This data is useful in helping our organization understand our donors’ interests in our mission and how to best communicate with our supporters and the community at large. Donor information is only shared with staff, board members, volunteers, and/or consultants on a strictly confidential and need-to-know basis. The Legal Action Center does not sell, trade, or share its donor list with any other organizations.

The supporters of the Legal Action Center have the right to request to be removed from our mailing lists at any time. To review personal information collected and/or request changes, please contact Robert B. Levy, Director of Development, at [email protected].
