Parity Hotline to Help New Yorkers Access Addiction Treatment

January 23, 2017 – Last month, the Legal Action Center launched a Parity Hotline to help New Yorkers understand and enforce their rights under the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, also known as the Parity Act. The Parity Act requires most health insurers to offer substance use and mental health coverage that is equal to other medical benefits. The purpose of the federal parity law is to end health insurance discrimination against people who need mental health and substance use treatment and improve access to care.

The Parity Hotline will provide information and advice to health and social services providers, advocates, and attorneys in New York. People in New York and other states may use Legal Action Center’s Parity Guide to learn more about the federal parity law. To reach the Parity Hotline, call (212) 243-1313.
