New York, NY – The Legal Action Center is very pleased to congratulate our Director of New York Policy, Sebastian Solomon, on his selection by the New York Nonprofit Media as one of “40 Rising Stars Under 40” working in New York city’s nonprofit sector.
Legal Action Center Director/President Paul Samuels said, “The Legal Action Center could not be prouder. For over 14 years, Sebastian has been a tireless and devoted advocate for the rights of New Yorkers with criminal records, addictions, and HIV/AIDS. He has built a career and a reputation on his fierce advocacy, and, with the support of our great team, contributed to victories large and small to improve the lives of thousands.”
Sebastian Solomon has truly been a rising star at Legal Action Center, resulting most recently in his promotion in February 2015 to Director of New York State Policy. He joined LAC in November 2001 as a Research Associate, working on syringe access and Rockefeller Drug Law reform, as well as supporting LAC’s National H.I.R.E. (Helping Individuals with criminal records Re-enter through Employment) Network. In 2003, he became a paralegal, providing advice and advocacy for many hundreds of clients working to overcome barriers caused by their HIV status, criminal record, or history of addiction. He was promoted to Policy Associate in 2011. In addition to leading numerous advocacy campaigns, Sebastian also co-chairs the Coalition of Reentry Advocates, a coalition of organizations from around New York State working to change New York laws and policies that limit opportunities for people who have had interactions with the criminal justice system.
Solomon was grateful to receive the award. “It’s a great honor to receive this award from the New York Nonprofit Media. It is a recognition of the important changes we are fighting for at LAC and the impact we are able to make. I’ve dedicated myself to this work. I love what I do, and I’m passionate about it. It’s incredible to get to do something you care so much about. To also receive an award for doing it is really special to me.”
New York Nonprofit Media has been a valuable news source for New York’s nonprofits. The publication served the industry for 12 years as New York Nonprofit Press and was recently redesigned and relaunched as New York Nonprofit Media. The Legal Action Center thanks the New York Nonprofit Media for recognizing Sebastian as a “40 Rising Stars Under 40” among its inaugural group of honorees for this prestigious award.
