Legal Action Center Hails Agreement On New York State Legislation That Will Expand Addiction Treatment

An agreement on new legislation that will expand access to addiction treatments in New York State was praised by the Legal Action Center (LAC) today. The agreement between Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York State legislative leaders incorporated key recommendations of the Governor’s Heroin and Opioid Task Force, which were enthusiastically supported by LAC.

The Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation Awards LAC $450,000 to Link People in the Criminal Justice System to Health Care

To improve health outcomes of individuals in the criminal justice system, the Jacob and Valeria Langeloth Foundation has awarded a $450,000, three-year grant to the Legal Action Center, a nonprofit law and policy organization, to enroll thousands of justice-involved individuals in Medicaid and link them to coordinated care.

Court Approves Legal Action Center’s FCRA Class Action Settlement

On May 5, 2016, a New York federal court approved the class action settlement in Jones v. Halstead Management Co. et al., No. 1:14-cv-03125-VEC, which will provide $583,375 to about 1,700 class members ($325 per class member). Halstead also made substantial changes to its practices as a result of the suit.
