National Criminal Justice Legal Services
In the 1970’s and 1980’s, LAC attorneys conducted litigation that overturned policies denying employment across-the-board to people with arrest or conviction histories, and drafted New York State’s pioneering law prohibiting unfair discrimination in employment of people with criminal records. Having won these important victories, LAC moved its litigation efforts to other areas in the 1990’s. Since discrimination remains a major obstacle to successful re-entry, LAC is now considering resuming litigation in this area.
