Learn about confidentiality from the comfort of your home or office! The Legal Action Center’s self-paced online confidentiality courses tell you what you need to know about both the federal alcohol and drug confidentiality regulations and HIPAA. They answers questions like:
- Does HIPAA apply to my alcohol and drug program?
- How can my program follow both HIPAA and the older federal alcohol and drug confidentiality regulations?
- What “patients’ rights” does HIPAA provide?
- What should my program do if we get a subpoena for a client’s records?
Created by the Legal Action Center’s attorneys, the nation’s leading experts in the field, these courses provide an easy-to-understand guide for alcohol and drug program staff trying to make sense of the sometimes overlapping confidentiality rules in HIPAA and the federal alcohol and drug confidentiality regulations, 42 C.F.R. Part 2.
■Introduction to Confidentiality is designed for front-line workers, such as counselors and case managers, and tells them the bottom line: what they may and may not disclose and how to honor patients’ rights. It should take about two hours to complete, but the time will vary with the user.
■Advanced Confidentiality is designed for senior staff who need to shape and implement agency policies to comply with both HIPAA and 42 C.F.R. Part 2. It should take four hours to complete, on average. Front-line staff may take the Advanced version if they want a more in-depth look at this subject.
Both versions provide sample forms and offer continuing education credits for users who pass the automatically-graded self-tests.
